Name: Carol

Age: 49

Sober Since: 05 / 24 / 1997

Sober For: 26 Years & 344 Days

What it was like?

Initially drinking took away my feelings of inadequacy and my insecurities. By the end I was hopeless, isolated depressed and suicidal.

What happened?

After a suicide attempt, I reached out to a friend (who happened to be 10 years sober at the time) and told her how I was feeling. She suggested I go to an AA Meeting. Full of fear, I followed her suggestion and went to my first AA meeting.

What it is like now?

Today, my life is beautiful! I have so many blessings in my life. I have mended damaged relationships and have true friendships. I have walked through some difficult and painful things in sobriety – without having to drink. I am comfortable in my skin, a feeling I have never had prior to getting sober. I am beyond grateful to be a sober woman in recovery today.
