Name: Melissa

Age: 46

Sober Since: 08 / 22 / 2003

Sober For: 20 Years & 247 Days

What it was like?

I started drinking to cope with anxiety and to fit in. I had extreme blackouts from a very young age and things just got worse and worse as my addiction progressed.

What happened?

My father died of liver failure in 2002, and I knew I could not keep going on the way I had been. I had a handful of significant relapses after he died, but finally quit for good and returned to Jesus Christ, my Lord and Savior!

What it is like now?

I have a wonderful life. God definitely blessed me when he realized I was serious and intentional about getting sober. I married a wonderful man and I was blessed with two more beautiful daughters (I also have a third daughter born during my active alcoholism and God protected both of us during the depths of my despair. I have an amazing career helping other addicts and a beautiful community of fellowship around me!
