Name: Jim Sutterfield

Age: 48

Sober Since: 04 / 15 / 1997

Sober For: 27 Years & 11 Days

What it was like?

I had lost almost everything and was living with a hole in my chest that the wind blew through at 100 mph. I was miserable and afraid to live... and afraid to die.

What happened?

I had an experience that I can only call a moment of clarity wherein I almost died. I was faced with a choice to follow on through and finish the job, or get help.

What it is like now?

The people around me now do not believe the stories I tell them about what I was like when drinking because it is so far removed from the person I am today. Life is great! I have also learned that it is a humbling experience to have people tell you, many years later, that your story changed, and saved, their life. That is when I realize just how grateful I need to be.
