Name: Ethan Anderson

Age: 28

Sober Since: 11 / 26 / 2016

Sober For: 8 Years & 54 Days

What it was like?

It was like a constant drag on my everyday life, from waking up almost every day being hungover, trying to remember when I quit drinking the night before and how I got home. It was punishment throughout the day dealing with the dehydration, headaches, and the over feeling of being run down day in and day out waiting to be done with work so I could do it all over again.

What happened?

Shortly after turning 21 I was pulled over for speeding after leaving the bar, I received my first DUI. I'd love to say I learned my lesson right there and then but not even a year later I received another DUI. The consequences of the second DUI were pay my fine, loose my driving privileges for 90 days, be evaluated, attended a impact meeting, go to outpatient treatment, and wear a alcohol monitor bracelet for a year. I didn't mind having to do all that it was my fuck up and I had to take responsibility for it. I was sober for a whole year and felt great physically and mentally but I hadn't quite learned my lesson. I started drinking once I got my bracelet off and thought I had gotten a handle on it, I was wrong and received my third DUI after Thanksgiving 2016 by hitting a parked vehicle . I got more fines, longer classes, and had to wear the bracelet for two years this time. I had hit rock bottom all before I turned 26, I should have learned my lesson after my first one but I kept thinking I had it all under control when all reality alcohol had total control over me. This was my turning point I would not allow alcohol to control my life any more, while I was sitting in jail that night I made the decision regardless of the bracelet I would quite drinking for good!

What it is like now?

It feels great! No more hangovers, no more wondering how I got home, no more wondering if I made a complete ass of my self the night before. My employer doesn't have to worry about me showing up for work, my work ethic has changed completely and I enjoy waking up and starting the day fresh and relaxed.
