Name: Dennis Knapp

Age: 55

Sober Since: 12 / 06 / 2001

Sober For: 22 Years & 141 Days

What it was like?

Coming back from a relapse was very hard for me. I had 10 years clean and sober and worked in the field of addiction. I had a lot of shame and guilt to contend with.

What happened?

Well the relapse started a lie to my wife about finances. The one lie turned into another then another. At the time I was doing street outreach in a town that was plagued with heroin and it was my job to get people into treatment and help them be safe from the HIV virus. Every lie led up to the 2 worse words and addict could say out loud. (Fuck It) I was on the road to using. All the behaviors came back first then the using was inevitable. Lost job, car wife and was homeless in the street and arrested for possession of narcotics.. Back to jail I went......

What it is like now?

Now I am working in a drug program and my wife married me again and I am coming up on 14 years in December 2016.
