What it was like?

It was like my job and I took it very seriously. I started drinking at 14. My first drunk was a blockout. They were pretty much all blackouts until my very last.

What happened?

What happened was that I no longer wanted to romance the misery. I no longer wanted to die in my sleep. All of a sudden I glimpsed a very dark future. I all of sudden cared about a future. And I picked up the phone and called the AA hotline. I got to a meeting and started my journey into recovery.

What it is like now?

What it's like now is I no longer see betrayal in the eyes of the woman who looks back at me from the mirror.
