Name: Carla LaVoy

Age: 37

Sober Since: 11 / 04 / 2017

Sober For: 6 Years & 168 Days

What it was like?

I was self medicating with alcohol through the end of a bad marriage and the beginning of my divorce. My friends tried to tell me I was drinking too much, but I wouldn't hear it. I was always angry, failing my college course. I was not a good employee or a good mom.

What happened?

After drinking at an event and then at the bar, I tried to drive home. I blacked out behind the wheel and rear ended someone. Thankfully, neither of us was hurt. After waking up in jail, I realized I am an alcoholic.

What it is like now?

I'm doing well working toward my degree. I'm in a great relationship with a wonderful man. My friends and children are proud of me. I'm in a good place in my career. I'm proud of the progress I've made in the last two years and continue to make, one day at a time.
