Which Fellowship Is Right for You?

Most meetings in this directory come from Twelve Step fellowships, but the right fit depends on what you are dealing with and what kind of approach you want. You can attend more than one.

AA

Alcoholics Anonymous

A Twelve Step fellowship for people who want to stop drinking. Meetings are free, run by members, and organized locally by intergroups and central offices.

NA

Narcotics Anonymous

Twelve Step program for anyone with a drug problem, regardless of the substance. NA treats addiction as one disease rather than separating drugs.

SMART

SMART Recovery

A secular, science-based alternative to Twelve Step programs built on cognitive-behavioral tools: motivation, coping with urges, managing thoughts, and balanced living.

Al-Anon

Al-Anon Family Groups

For friends and family members affected by someone else's drinking. You do not need the person who drinks to be in recovery — or to know you are attending.

Open vs. Closed Meetings

Open meetings welcome anyone — family, friends, students, or people who are curious about how meetings work. Closed meetings are for people who have a desire to stop drinking or using. If you are not sure whether you belong, start with an open meeting. Browse open meetings.

Your First Meeting

  • Arrive a few minutes early and sit anywhere. Nobody is required to speak.
  • Meetings are free. A basket is passed for voluntary contributions.
  • Formats vary: speaker, discussion, step study, or literature. Look for beginner meetings if you want the basics.
  • If you cannot get to a room, online meetings run around the clock.

Before Your First Visit

Groups move, merge and change their schedules, so treat this directory as a starting point and confirm with the group or local office before your first visit. If a listing is wrong, open the meeting and use "Report a change".
