Name: Jacqueline

Age: 29

Sober Since: 05 / 14 / 2011

Sober For: 12 Years & 323 Days

What it was like?

I had my first drink at age 11. I never really think anything of it because drinking alcohol is so commonplace in my family. I continued down the path of alcoholism into my twenties.

What happened?

I was in a car accident when I was 16, which killed my best friend. I suffered from a traumatic brain injury and many other injuries. I struggled with depression and was self medicating with alcohol, but I DID'T HAVE A PROBLEM!! At age 22 I reached a point where I thought the only way I could make it was to kill my self. Miraculously I woke up one day and decided I couldn't do this anymore. Once I decided to quit there was no looking back.

What it is like now?

My life is infinitely better sober. Once I decided to quit there was no looking back. I never had the temptation to just 1 more drink, because I know what a slippery slope that can be, and I was DONE!
