Name: Gary

Age: 56

Sober Since: 05 / 22 / 2007

Sober For: 16 Years & 342 Days

What it was like?

I’m a War Veteran and the battles with depression and PTSD led to a lot of different addictions, with alcohol being the worse. I was “Switching seats on the Titanic” to try to cope with everything, but nothing worked

What happened?

Thinks had gotten so bad That I tried to commit suicide by overdosing on alcohol, benzodiazepines and pain killers, but I realized I made a mistake and called a friend,I blacked out and woke in a hospital 2 days later, but that didn’t stop the drinking. I finally had an epiphany while sitting in a bar and told myself,”This is it,I’m done”

What it is like now?

Life is Great! I love dogs and I have had 2 that helped me get sober and 2 stay sober. The did pictured is Macy, she’s my Service Dog and has helped me through many health problems through the years. I give God all the Glory for My Sobriety and I’m thankful everyday for the second chance I have been given
