01 What it was like

I couldn't lie enough. I couldn't hide enough. I couldn't drink enough. I couldn't be angry enough. I couldn't manipulate enough. I couldn't hate myself enough.

I waited for death, divorce, and disconnection from everyone.

02 What happened

I waited for death, divorce, and disconnection from everyone. Instead, I ended up in the emergency room for the 6th time in 10 months. I had a .4 BAC. I went through medical detox for 5 days. I entered an inpatient treatment center and was there for 42 days. I went to aftercare for day treatment and outpatient treatment for 5 months and attended a well known 12 step group 3 nights a week

03 What it is like now

I pray daily. I still attend a well known 12 step program 2-3 nights a week. I maintain monthly attendance to my treatment center alumni group meetings. I live a fulfilled life with my beautiful wife and 2 adorable dogs. I have a job I love and the respect, trust, and love of my family and friends. I take things one day at a time. I do my best to take ownership of the things in my life that I can control and leave the things I can't to those that know better and love me the most. I live to be my authentic self and to educate others on the disease of addiction and mental health disorders and struggles. I live to my meaning and purpose in life and the byproduct of that seems to be joy and serenity.
