The one home we list in Hallandale Beach is FARR-certified.
Certification for sober homes in Florida is voluntary. The Department of Children and Families approves the certifying body, which is the Florida Association of Recovery Residences (FARR). A FARR-certified home has passed an on-site inspection, and its owners and directors have gone through a level 2 background check. It also has to be run by a certified recovery residence administrator.
If you're leaving treatment, certification affects where you can be referred. Under Florida law, licensed treatment providers can refer patients only to certified homes. There are some exceptions, including chartered, democratically run houses such as Oxford Houses. Before you commit to a house, ask to see its current FARR certificate and get the name of its administrator.

These terms overlap and are used inconsistently, so use the descriptions below as a guide and confirm the details with the house itself.
A shared house where every resident agrees to stay alcohol- and drug-free. Most are privately run by an operator or house manager, charge weekly or monthly rent, and expect residents to work or attend school, go to meetings, follow house rules, and pass drug tests. There is usually no clinical treatment on site; residents attend outpatient care elsewhere if they need it.

Residents split rent and utilities equally, and anyone who relapses must leave. New residents apply and are voted in by the current members after an interview.
Browse these listings →Time-limited housing attached to a treatment program, nonprofit, or agency. Residents are usually enrolled in or coming out of that program, and case management or outpatient services are often part of the arrangement. Length of stay is typically capped (commonly 3–24 months).

Some operators use "halfway house" loosely to mean any sober house, so ask what the term means at the specific house you are considering.
