All four of Blue Island's treatment centers offer a robust foundation: substance use treatment, comprehensive assessment, substance use education, and screening for substance use disorders. Each center conducts urine drug screening to guide personalized care.
Counseling is central to all four programs. Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is available at all four centers—it's one of the most evidence-backed approaches for addiction. All centers also provide individual counseling, group counseling, family counseling, and trauma-related counseling, addressing the strong link between past trauma and current substance use. Screening for mental health conditions happens at all four, with brief interventions tailored to each person's readiness for change.
Behavioral and motivational approaches are standard: motivational interviewing, the Matrix Model (a structured protocol for stimulant use), anger management, relapse prevention, and contingency management—a rewards-based approach that builds motivation—are available at all four centers. Case management and discharge planning ensure continuity of care before and after treatment.
Peer support and mentoring connect clients to stable people in recovery. Naloxone (Narcan) overdose education is available at all four, along with HIV early intervention screening and general health education.
Three of the four centers serve clients of any gender, while one specializes in men. All four welcome young adults and adults. Most centers are private non-profit organizations with ties to Illinois's State Substance Abuse Agency.
