- Newcomer
- Designed for people in their first days or weeks. The format usually covers the basics of the program and how meetings work.
- Candlelight
- Held by candlelight, usually a quieter evening format.
- Discussion
- A chair introduces a topic and members take turns sharing. This is the most common meeting format.
- Literature
- The group reads from approved fellowship literature and discusses it.
- Meditation
- Includes a period of silent or guided meditation, usually followed by sharing.
- Open
- Open meetings welcome anyone — family, friends, students, and people who are simply curious — not only those with a drinking or drug problem.
- Speaker
- One or more members share their story at length. Speaker meetings are a good fit if you would rather listen than talk.
- Young People
- Young people's meetings are aimed at members in their teens, twenties, and thirties, though anyone may attend.
Notes from the Group
Open AA meeting for Black, Indigenous & People of Color (BIPOC). We specify BIPOC to mean anyone who does not identify as white. So if you self-identify as BIPOC, you are welcome here. Our focus is creativity & recovery. It’s not a requirement to self-identify as an artist or writer, but if you’re here it’s about to get weird!
