Heather Locklear Celebrates 1 Year Sober

Sober Celebrities

Heather Locklear is one year sober!

Last week, the Melrose Place actress took to Instagram last week to celebrate the significant milestone, posting a quote from poet, Maya Angelou.

“Life Does Go On”

“I’ve learned that no matter what happens, or how bad it seems today, life does go on, and it will be better tomorrow,” the quote states.

Captioned on the post, the 58-year-old added, “Hugs will come later! 1 year sober today!!!”

A year ago, it was confirmed that the actress was living in an inpatient drug rehab facility.

Locklear’s struggles with both substance use disorder and her mental health have been widely reported in the past. Previously she had been placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold after pleading no contest to eight misdemeanor offenses and received mental health treatment instead of jail time. The actress has also been to treatment numerous times which also drove a wedge between her and her daughter, Ava’s relationship.

The Difference of a Year

However, what a difference a year can make. The star is reportedly doing great.

“She is doing great and looks great,” a friend of the star tells People. “What’s most important is today and the next day and the future and she’s in a great place.”

The friend adds, “She is gardening and taking walks and cooking like a fiend. She cooks for herself and Ava, and she cooks for her parents.”

However, despite the ups and downs, another source states that the actress and her daughter continue to maintain a “loving and supportive relationship.”

“Ava has a very loving and supportive relationship with her mom,” the source said at the time. “And as painful it is, she knows that it’s in her mom’s hands and God’s hands. All she can do is like anybody else, just pray and support.”

Connection and Support

Following the milestone, numerous celebs and Melrose Place co-stars took to Instagram to congratulate her.

“Congratulations, Heather! So happy for you, my friend!” her former “Melrose Place” co-star Laura Leighton wrote on Instagram.

“Love you Heather!!!!!!!” wrote “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” star Lisa Rinna said, another “Melrose Place” alumni.
