  • Just saying that when we put down the drugs and ‘find a new way to live’, it’s not called ‘Sober or Sobriety’..those are AA terms.

We are ‘clean’ and we enjoy our ‘recovery’.

It’s just a weird thing to read bout ppl struggling with ‘drug addiction’ and mentioning substances outside of Alcohol (which is a drug fyi)..hearing described as being ‘sober’ in ‘sobriety’..

Just a recovering addicts personal opinion as I too cleaned up in 2008 and I am now living in Recovery 🙂

    Hugs!

    • Its just different terms for the same disease. Dont be one of those stuck up snobs that knocks the other fellowships, both have saved millions of lives.

THAAAAAAAAAAAAAANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!! UGH!!!! ALL OF that drives me nuts,, we are here to help and raise each other up regardless of which 12 step you work, or which terminology you work, i’ve had newbies come up to me privately and tell me that those snobs approached them after they shared in the meeting and flat out told them they spoke incorrectly or worded something wrong,, cmon people! thats not why we are here!

        • I agree! I have over 31 yrs recovery. We all have different paths and opinions. Let’s respect each other for where we’ve come from and where we each are going!

    • Thank you!! I was going to post this same sort of thing. I’ve been clean for almost 3 years. So grateful to the Program

    • Don’t be exclusive it makes NA look bad. Sobriety is not an “AA” term and it applies to all mind alerting chemicals. The terms used don’t matter. Saving lives does.

      • Thank you. I hate the tone folks use over the terms “sober” and “clean”. It doesn’t matter how you used, what you used or how long. Why bother with creating walls in recovery….a drug is a drug is a drug….and that includes alcohol.

    • Some “clean” drug addicts reserve the right to drink–so the term “sober” isn’t accurate. Just sayin’.

  • Demi Lovato has suffered from bipolar disorder and addictions such as self-harm, anorexia (binge/purge type,) and alcoholism and drug addiction. She went to rehab and is now living a healthy life. She’s such an inspiration and keeps me going! ❤️

  • You missed Kristen Johnston!!! She’s one of the most vocal champions working toward changing the stigma surrounding recovery. She is working diligently to create the first sober high school in NYC.

  • Keep it simple people…
Being so technical doesn’t keep someone sober. Forget the titles. Celebrate the recovery. Gees…

  • many relapse after rehab. It’s a program of constant vigilance and daily maintenance to stay in recovery.

    • Called a lapse rather than a relapse . I know , more techno speak. We are not our disease. We have not “relapsed” into the abyss, our journey has taken a lapse, a detour. We can get right back on our journey.

  • Too bad other people in “the program” don’t respect other people’s anonymity.

    • It’s not breaking anonymity if someone chooses to let the public know of their struggle!

Has anyone noticed it’s all women? Where are the men?

      Read the title…it say women.
It’s clear that there are men who have faced adversity with drug and alcohol who became clean. But I’m sure out there that there is a list recognizing them. Overall not only these 10 women have fought and won over addiction but there are many out there that have. If people can list others then this article did job and raises awareness too.

  • Hi , we have to remember whether it be AA,CA,NA, They are all fellowship that have helped to save many lives – when I travel the country I got to where a meeting is available – I’ve been abstinent from any mood altering substance for 3 years- I love being clean & sober !!! God bless you all ? ? ? & Keep the faith !!

Powerless over my addictions/Alcohol, drug of choice… 9 years Alcohol free

  • I’m always taken by surprise by some of the comments. Humanity never disappoints. We can be so hard on each other. And then forgiving. I like the latter better. For me, the road from addition through recovery has led to enlightenment.

    • Relate! 12 should be given in school. For me it’s about making world a better place, one person at the time! Myself!

  • 20 years sober.
IMHO, a drug is a drug, be it meth or coke or heroin or pot or alcohol.
Sober or clean or recovery. All used in 12 step programs. Rehab centers. Sober living homes. Halfway houses.
Any one who is clean sober and in recovery knows how to use the terms.

  • Twenty five plus years clean and sober, never take that for granted, I’ve had to want sobriety bad enough, each day, more than I wanted to use drugs or alcohol ☝️

Lana Del Ray.. now i love even more sober women r the best!

  • Just reading all of these comments. I have been “sober” “clean” “in recovery” for going on five years. Why does it have to be a debate? I dislike NA and AA bc of the people and the atmosphere but that is a personal opinion just as this is. I believe that it doesn’t matter how you recover, all that matters is that you were once in active addiction, now you use nothing and your life is better because of it. Whether you did it through 12 steps, rehab, you did it by yourself, or medicine-assisted treatment. The fact of the matter is that you knew that you couldn’t use anymore or you were going to die. If you didn’t hit rock bottom, you were well on your way and you were one of the people who was able to recover because unfortunately, not everyone does. Who gives a shit how you did it, how your doing it, or why! The fact is you are a recovering addict1 Congratulations! Recovering addicts are BAD ASS! Real shit!
