More Info About Rehabs in Utah

  • Utah’s government and local communities are doing everything they can to stop this surge in overdose deaths. The state’s Department of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH) is making treatment more accessible and improving treatment services through evidence-based practices. Communities are getting involved in prevention campaigns and creating systems of support for recovering people.

Treatment facilities in Utah are collecting treatment outcomes and evaluating their current practices to find what works. If you or a loved one is struggling with substance abuse of any kind, treatment can open the door to recovery. There are quality treatment options available in Utah, and we can help you find them. Call us today: 1-866-317-7050.

    • Each year, around 185,000 people in Utah are dependent upon or abusing alcohol and/or drugs.
    • Of those people in need of treatment, between 8% and 15% of them received substance abuse treatment services.
    • In 2015, the majority of people in treatment in Utah reported either alcohol, amphetamines, or heroin as their primary substance of abuse.
    • Alcohol abuse was spread across all age groups, but the majority of amphetamine abuse and heroin abuse was seen in people between the ages of 21 and 35.
    • From 2013 to 2015, though reports of primary alcohol abuse in Utah decreased, reports of amphetamine abuse and heroin abuse both increased.
  • Treatment can help you or your loved one learn to live a sober life. Over 85% of clients in Utah's treatment facilities in 2016 had positive treatment outcomes, and were either stable, significantly improved, or deemed “in recovery” when treatment ended. On average, more than twice as many people report abstinence from drugs when released from treatment in Utah, compared to when treatment begins.

Substance abuse treatment is typically in an inpatient or outpatient setting. An inpatient rehab offers round-the-clock care and support, intensive daily treatment activities, and clients live at the facility for a designated period of time. Outpatient services, on the other hand, are offered during scheduled daytime hours, and clients have more freedom to uphold home and work responsibilities. Many people attend outpatient treatment after inpatient, to help with the transition into a sober life, or as a more viable treatment option financially and time-wise.

Between Utah’s inpatient and outpatient facilities, there are almost 200 different rehabs across the state—each with a unique treatment approach and special services offered. Some rehabs may suit your needs or your loved one’s needs better than others. Treatment is meant to be personalized and tailored to the individual, so it’s important to do your research and consider what you’re looking for in a rehab.

Because different age groups and genders face unique issues, some treatment programs or counseling groups are age-specific or gender-specific. There are also therapy groups and treatment programs designed to help people who have experienced traumas or abuse and use substance abuse as a coping mechanism. One of the most common factors that contributes to substance abuse is mental illness, so there are also dual diagnosis facilities that treat co-occurring disorders alongside substance abuse issues.

On the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH) website, you can browse Utah’s licensed treatment agencies by counties. In addition to treatment services, many of these agencies also offer recovery housing to help with the transition from treatment into a sober, independent lifestyle. In these sober living homes, recovering people have the opportunity to maintain employment and work towards independence, within the support of a sober community.

Finding treatment can be a daunting process, but you don’t have to handle it all on your own. We can help you find treatment options in your area, that are covered by your insurance, or that suit your individual needs. Whether it’s you or a a loved one who needs help, don’t delay any longer. Call and speak with one of our friendly representatives today: 1-866-317-7050.

    • The DSAMH is involved in statewide prevention efforts, with Prevention Coordinators in every county. These coordinators help to implement prevention programs throughout Utah, seeking to prevent underage drinking, prescription drug abuse, and illicit drug abuse.
    • In partnership with the Utah Pharmaceutical Drug Community Project and several other organizations, the DSAMH helps to sponsor Utah’s “Use Only As Directed” campaign. The educational campaign is designed to inform communities about safe use, storage, and disposal of prescription pain medications, in order to prevent misuse and abuse.
    • ParentsEmpowered.org is an educational campaign funded by several state agencies in Utah. The campaign provides parents and guardians with information about teen alcohol use and strategies for preventing underage drinking.
