What is Smart Recovery?

SMART recovery has no spiritual component. The take time in meetings to bash 12 step recovery. They believe getting sober is simply a decision to quit.

SMART recovery is not designed to bash 12 steps. In fact many people use them both. SMART recovery is a CBT type program, It like 12 steps is not for everyone.
12 step meetings and SMART meetings do have a commonality, Each meeting is different you must find one that works for you. i personally do not attend meetings at all and rely on SMART on line.
I have been using SMART for 6 months and am for once truly enjoying being 100 percent sober, 12 steps simply did not work for me.
I personally think that no matter what type of support a person utilizes, to be successful you have to start with making the simple but life changing decision to quit. A person who doesn’t will continue on the rollercoaster of relapse and sobriety each bout of relapse making it harder to get sober.

I am in a spiritual based 12 step program, and some important information it’s taught me was to lay all prejudice aside. To me, that means I bash no one, and I’m a respecter of anyone who can recover today because our illness disrespects us all equally.

I have done SMART recovery programs in the past and regular 12 step both are extremely successful tools for recovery, but for those who struggle with the “God”,parts of a 12 step program SMART and other programs such as Noah Levine’s program are great alternative’s, why argue over what’s best all that really matters is what works for you and your sobriety. We are fighting a battle that takes lives and we are doing it while still being shunned by “normal society so let’s quit the bulls hit and stick together.

You don’t know what you’ll gain from recovery until you stop using long enough to see it, feel it and live it!! 30 years clean at 60 years of age it has been nothing but good for 30 years

Did my first SMART Recovery meeting last night, and I feel like a door to recovery has been opened after 4 long years of AA and rehab and trying to do it on my own. Everyone needs to find their own answers, and AA is great for many. But for me, I needed a different environment and approach.

I’m 33 and except for my childhood (0-12 yrs old) I’ve never known what sobriety feels like or what to do with it or…basically I’m lost right now. My drugs of choice are herein methamphetamine Tobacco of course and various others that at THIS time aren’t prevalent enough to list them all although I’ve abused most everything in my life but anyway sorry I’m getting off the point. My heroin addiction is only controlled by the meth I use to give me the energy and desire I require in order to go another day not having that shot of tar in me it is something I’ve come to enjoy immensely then it was something I had “come to terms with”and accepted about myself it has been the ball and chain I tolerated and now I think I need to see it as it is its not fun it’s not who I am or supposed to be its the slow suicide I had years ago become ok with but what if I change my mind what if I don’t want to slowly kill myself anymore aren’t I allowed to want to stay here a bit longer if someone would give a damn to see I’m not just some low life drug addict to be shunned and abhorred but a human being in desperate need of help and need to be loved and not judged in need of a shoulder to lean instead of a syringe for my crutch?…..ya feel me? Or am I just being a whiney bi**h
