Free Addiction Help & Resources

Addiction Treatment

You begin drinking heavily, and you lose your job because of it. You want to get help to stop drinking, but you can’t afford rehab because you don’t have a job. It’s the type of dilemma that many alcoholics and addicts face, and finding free addiction help may be the only solution. But where can you find get it?

State Programs

Most states use tax dollars to run free alcohol treatment centers and free addiction help centers, including detox units, and outpatient and inpatient rehab and counseling. Programs vary greatly by state, so you should contact your state’s mental health or substance abuse division for more information. You can find free addiction help information on your state’s website, and most programs are under the Department of Mental Health, the Division of Behavioral Health, or similar names.

The Salvation Army

The Salvation Army is one nonprofit that offers free addiction help centers and addiction treatment centers all over the United States. However, be aware their program is Christian faith-based, so it’s not for everyone. You can find out more about their six-month programs at SATruck.org. You must go through an in-depth interview process before being selected.

Local Rehab Centers

If you’re having trouble finding free alcohol treatment centers and free addiction treatment centers in your area, do not hesitate to contact all your local rehab centers. Many rehabs have programs that offer rates on a sliding-scale, and many also offer sponsorship programs that grant free treatment to individuals who apply and are accepted. It never hurts to ask!

Support Groups

While not treatment centers, there are many support groups for alcoholics and addicts that offer assistance and a safe environment for free. Programs like Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, SOS, SMART, and LifeRing, to name a few, are accepting of everyone who is looking for support and guidance while trying to live a clean and sober life. All of these resources can provide free addiction help through support and therapy.

  • Charlene u can contact local police anonymously and casually ask for county and or state offered assistance. When lives become a risk, assistance evaluates the patient and costs are covered.

I stop her once before she was alcohol free for two years until her husband started drinking again. He would bring Gallon of Crown in the house. I truly believe he did this on purpose. Is the any thing nature like Carrots Or what ever that would help the DT’s?

  • Never underestimate the power for friends and your own community. When I really needed help, I was completely broke and with no insurance. I reached out to my close friends just saying I needed help and didn’t know what to do. Through a series of connections, I managed to find someone who worked in the recovery field at Bodhi Addiction and Wellness in Santa Cruz (www.bodhiaddiction.com). He used his connections to get me sponsored at a rehab center, in exchange for some help with his business after I recovered. It may not be the norm, but there are places out there that are in it to help people before making money, and will find a creative way to get you the help you need, even if you can’t afford traditional treatments.
