“What’s up everybody? This is Tim, with www.Sobernation.com. What we’re doing, we’re starting this video series where every week, or every two weeks, or however long we do this; we’re going to talk to different people with different perspectives, different experts in the field of recovery and bring up different subjects so that we can get a bunch of different points of view.
Where we’re going to start, since I am going to start this, my favorite subject to talk about is definitely gratitude because when I think of gratitude I always think of perspective.
You can take a situation, look at it from the point of view of all the things that you don’t have, and you can take that same situation and look at it from the point of view of all the things that you do have and it completely flips your perspective on life and your outlook depending on how you perceive it.
So gratitude, I think that’s really what its all about. I think that’s why they say that a grateful addict wont pick up, because he or she is happy and content with everything that he has and is able to see the positive side and is able to appreciate what hes got.
No matter where you are in life you might not have everything that you want but you always have more than somebody else and there’s somebody else with less than you that is grateful for what they got.
So I’m definitely interested to hear your guys point of view. Don’t forget to leave your mentions in the comments I wanna hear what you guys have to say. We’re going to start this, we are going to see how this shit goes. So… like I said my name’s Tim. Sobernation.com. Look forward to hearing your response.”
I don’t always like to think of things in terms of, “well I’m doing better than someone else, so I should be grateful” though it is sometimes helpful to put things in a bigger perspective.
It’s always best to focus on the positive itself. I have a loving family, a nice home, etc. Listing out positives when you’re happy and keeping that list to look at when you’re tempted to go down a bad path.
In my personal experience.
Having an attitude of gratitude is the key to recovery.
For every thing in life, be drug, alcohol, physical mental emotional or spiritual sickness.
I know that every one have God given power to change them self.
The experiences in my life are my choices.
The choices I made got me to where I am right now.
Therefor I am for ever grateful for my life.
I have found that people can always drink or use on a lie. The lie may be, this will never change, or I am different that others in recovery, or I just can not do this for one more day and the lies go on and on. You can never drink or use on the truth, Such as the saying is “This to shall pass not This to shall stay”, or others have felt all the hurt and despair the same as you, you are not different. Don’t quit before the miracle happens.
