Let’s build something together…
I was hanging out with my cousin yesterday for Thanksgiving. We have a tradition every year, and it is a family event I always look forward to. Since I have moved to Florida, it is hard to find the time to see my family and so Thanksgiving can be a lonely time.
I say that simply because I know people who have an even harder time during the holidays, because they may be new to recovery or they miss their families and get sad. I try my best to help them out.
When I got home last night I was lying in bed thinking of all that I have to be grateful for. The list really is endless. I thought it would be a cool idea to write my own gratitude list, and hopefully our readers may take the time to make some gratitude lists of their own so we can share them.
1 – I am grateful for my recovery. It is the greatest achievement of my life and my most prized possession.
2 – I am grateful for my health. With all the shit I have done to my body, I am very lucky to have gotten out of it without any serious health effects.
3 – I am grateful for my family. We had a rough go at it for a while, but we have stuck together over the years and I love them so much.
4 – I am grateful for the blank page. Writing and literature have always helped me clear my head.
5 – I am grateful for my supports. I have spent most of my life feeling alone, and I never thought I would have so many people in my life who care about me and who appreciate me.
6 – I am grateful for my dog. He’s my best pal.
7 – I am grateful that I can exercise. I would be a lunatic if I wasn’t able to go running.
8 – I am grateful for my home. I’m not rich, but I have everything I need.
9 – I am grateful for the food in my fridge. I remember the days when I had to walk around with peanut butter and jelly in my back pack because I was so broke and couldn’t afford groceries.
10 – I am grateful for Chuck Taylors. I am aware that I have a problem, but I can’t get enough of them.
11 – I am grateful for Chipotle. It’s just perfect.
12 – I am grateful that I have a bed to sleep in. Not everyone has a bed, but I do and I feel good about that.
13 – I am grateful for you guys. When we started Sober Nation, we never dreamed that it would turn into what it has. Sober Nation has given me purpose and I feel very close to everyone and we hear everything you say. Big things to come!
14 – I am grateful for a good nights sleep. I spent years staying up for 4 days in a row and than trying to muscle through withdrawal. Having a good night sleep and a routine in life is priceless.
15 – I am grateful to be alive.
This is just a fraction of all the things in life I have gratitude for. What we are hoping is that people leave a short gratitude list in the comments section of this article or in the Facebook comments. Can’t wait to hear them. 🙂
