In 2006, Tara’s life quickly went from living in a small town to living in New York City, being crowned Miss USA, and having Donald Trump as her boss.
“All of a sudden I had all of these responsibilities and I always had to look and act a certain way.”
She entered treatment in December of that year after testing positive for cocaine.
Although Tara was only 20 years old when she got sober, she said she managed to do a lot of damage in her 6 years of drinking and using.
Tara recently celebrated 13 years sober and she has made it her mission to raise awareness that addiction is a disease and not a moral failing.
Her Ted Talk, talk show and podcast RealTalk100! and her Recover Out Loud Town Hall meetings have helped many people in the recovery movement step out of the shadows.
