Kit Harington Checked Into Treatment Amid Game of Thrones Finale

The final season of hit show, Game of Thrones left many with a sense of grief, feeling of emptiness and brought up questions for many of, “what’s next?.” However, as much as the ending of the show has been a loss for millions, it appears few are taking it harder than actor Kit Harington.

According to Page Six, Harington, who plays iconic character, Jon Snow, secretly checked into the Connecticut dual-diagnosis facility, Prive Swiss, ahead of the shows ending, which “really hit him hard,” multiple sources have confirmed.

“Kit has decided to utilize this break in his schedule as an opportunity to spend some time at a wellness retreat to work on some personal issues,” Harington’s rep told multiple outlets.

In HBO’s behind-the-scenes documentary The Last Watch, viewers can see Harington’s visible shaken and emotional reaction to finding out for the first time that his character, Jon Snow, kills Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke).

The Darkest Period

In a recent interview with Variety, Harington revealed that his lowest and “darkest” point came after he became the focus of the show when his character was killed and brought back to life.

“That was a time when I started therapy and started talking to people. I had felt very unsafe, and I wasn’t talking to anyone,” the actor said.

“My darkest period was when the show seemed to become so much about Jon when he died and came back,” Harington continued. “I really didn’t like the focus of the whole show coming onto Jon. When you become the cliffhanger of a TV show and a TV show probably at the height of its power, the focus on you is fucking terrifying.”

In April, Harington told Esquire that he had a breakdown after filming his final scene as Jon Snow and felt like he was “being skinned” when removing his costume for the last time.

“My final day of shooting, I felt fine … I felt fine … I felt fine … Then I went to do my last shots and started hyperventilating a bit. Then they called, ‘Wrap!’ And I just fucking broke down,” he said. “It was this onslaught of relief and grief about not being able to do this again.”

What Next?

Undergoing psychological coaching, practicing mindful meditation and cognitive behavioral therapy to combat stress and deal with negative emotions, a source told Page Six, the actor “realized ‘this is it — this is the end’ of something he had all worked so hard on for so many years. He had a moment of, ‘what next?”

While Harington’s rep has denied the actor’s alcohol issue, Harington has made headlines after being kicked out of bars in Paris and NYC in 2018.

His wife, Rose Leslie, 32, whom he met on the set of “Game of Thrones,” who also played his on-screen love interest, is being extremely supportive, multiple reports have stated.

It’s clear Game of Thrones has been an emotional rollercoaster for fans and spectators for the past ten years, however, one can only imagine what the experience has been like for the cast of the show – many who have become global superstars since its premiered in 2011.

In regards to the end, Harington added, “But the weirdest bit was when we came off set and they started taking the costume off and it felt like being skinned … It felt like they were unceremoniously for the last time ripping off this character.”

While Jon snow may not know much, we’re at least glad he knows enough to get himself some help.
