Brad Pitt is one of the world’s most recognizable and loved movie stars. His break out role was in 1991’s “Thelma and Louise.” Ever since then he’s been a Hollywood Icon.
His fame never got to him, but during his recent divorce with fellow movie star Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt struggle with addiction and alcoholism got out of control. The media hopped on his misery and made it the world’s news that Brad Pitt was struggling with addiction and alcoholism. Pitt decided to get his life back and took the steps needed to get clean.
Pitt, now 53, has always been a Hollywood megastar who has used his fame to help the world. Now that he’s in recovery, he’s using that fame to bring a light to the dark world of addiction.
Pitt fell into the grips of addiction the same way most of us do. It starts slow and innocent, some cocaine on weekends maybe you drink a bit in excess every now and then. Then it slowly become more and more frequent, before you know it, it is the only thing that matters.
Drug addiction and alcoholism are no strangers to Hollywood. Some of the biggest names to ever grace the silver screen have also struggled with drug and alcohol related issues. Heath Ledger and River Phoenix both lost their lives to their addiction.
Thankfully Brad Pitt was able to get clean and is now advocating and sharing his story with the world. Pitt joins a ton of other A-List celebrities in recovery; Robert Downey Jr, Alec Baldwin, Eric Clapton, Matthew Perry, Lindsay Lohan and countless other celebrities have struggled with addiction and lived to share their story of hope with the world.
“For me this period has really been about looking at my weaknesses and failures and owning my side of the street,” Pitt said.
“For me every misstep has been a step toward epiphany, understanding, some kind of joy. Yeah, the avoidance of pain is a real mistake. It’s the real missing out on life. It’s those very things that shape us, those very things that offer growth, that make the world a better place, oddly enough, ironically. That make us better.”
